3rd Level Course:

Business and Management NUI Maynooth
Why did you choose this course? Initially I wasn’t really sure what direction I wanted to go in.  I felt that this course exposed me to a lot of different areas within business, from which I could decide what really interested me. Some examples of subjects I covered during my 3 years are organisational behaviour, accounting, strategic management, human resources and so on.
How long is/was the course?  It was 3 years long.
Current role / employment:  Client Portfolio Executive at Independent Trustee Company.
Best career achievement to date:  I’ve only recently started my professional career so it’s still early days, however I’m very proud of the fact that I now manage a portfolio of 200-300 clients. This basically involves daily correspondence with clients and dealing with any issues they may have. It’s definitely been a steep learning curve but I’m proud of how far I’ve come since leaving school.
Have you any advice for our current students?  I think the best piece of advice I could give to current students is to take every opportunity that comes your way. Try out different subjects, roles, hobbies/sports – It’ll really open your eyes to just how many different opportunities there are in the world. Also, I think making connections is one of the best things you can do, not just professionally but for life in general. If I’ve learned anything since leaving school it’s that the world is a small place and you never know who might help you out with something in the future.
Best memory of Ratoath College:  My best memory of Ratoath College would have to be Transition Year. The camping trips are something that I still remember to this day. It was also fairly decent having no exams to worry about for a year.
