Student Council
Why Have a Student Council?
The goal of the student council is to give the student body a say in what goes on within the school. The members of the Student Council meet up each week and share the thoughts of their fellow students. It’s important to have the opportunity to have a say and keep up to date on what’s being done throughout the school and having a Student Council gives everyone a chance to do so.
What Have We Done?
- Introduced trousers for girls which can be worn from Nov to Feb
- Fundraised through “dare for stairs” to get a ramp built up to the football pitches
- We have set up lunch time ‘games clubs’ some years
- We are in discussions with the canteen regarding the foods they stock
- Worked with management to improve the bathroom facilities for students
- Consulted with management on the changes to the timetable and the introduction of 50minute classes
- A number of students have gone on to represent second level students on the ISSU board
- We have had members from our school represent us at Comhairle Na Nog and now have 4 reps from Ratoath
- As always we are constantly meeting with management with any problems or thoughts on little things like bathrooms, WI-FI and litter
- We have met with reps from the Independent Review Group to discuss the use of iPads
- We have started a Student Council award at end of term ceremony’s in which students who constantly show general kindness and respect are nominated and a winner is chosen from them
