3rd Level Course:

Multimedia at DCU
Why did you choose this course? I was unsure with what I wanted to do after school, never mind after college. I have always had an interest in TV & Film but never thought that it was possible to build my career in such a competitive industry. I went to the DCU Open Day thinking that they had no course suitable for me. I went to the Multimedia talk schedules just to see what was involved. I thought that it was a course based heavily on creative writing and stemmed from an English course. I was proven wrong, there was so much more involved. It did not specialise in one particular aspect of media, such as coding or audio production. They covered everything in the first two years through various modules allowing you to choose your favourite for final year. This was appealing to me as I had no experience in the media industry.
How long is/was the course?  3 years
Current role / employment:  Production Assistant of Boulder Media, TV division
Best career achievement to date:  Working in one of Ireland’s top animation studios!
Have you any advice for our current students?  Learning does not stop after school, chances are this is the kind of learning that you will prefer! But until then, you need to work as hard as you can to get to where you want to go. (And most of the time, that destination of where you want to go changes along the way!) That is all you can do! Not every exam is going to go your way, but all you can do is prepare as much as possible. Attend as many open days as possible for colleges. If you are stuck between two courses, just having a good feel for the place may be the deciding choice. After attending DCU, I know how seriously they take Open Days and how much they want to give out information to anyone who wants it, let them! Ask questions and get in touch with people who have done that course before. It could be the different between choosing a course that wasn’t for you.
Best memory of Ratoath College:  I will not forget the 1st year trip to Italy. It was great fun with a great bunch of people.
