3rd Level Course:

Bachelor of Business Studies at Dublin City University
Why did you choose this course?

I didn’t know what I wanted to do when I was in school (and still don’t) but I knew that I wanted to work in fast paced environments with lots of people trying to help solve complex problems. As a result, I felt that a Bachelor of Business Studies degree would be a good starting point to help me to work in that kind of environment. I chose this course specifically in Dublin City University as it was one of the few degrees at the time that offered a year’s internship as part of the course. I spent my internship year in New York which was an incredible learning experience and put everything I had learnt into practice. It’s a brilliant degree that I would really recommend to students considering a career in business.

How long is/was the course?

The course was 4 years long which included the 12 month internship year.

Current role / employment:

Enterprise Account Manager at Jobbio. Jobbio is a careers marketplace where candidates can connect directly to companies. We help people find their dream job.

Best career achievement to date:

I’m only at the very start of my career so I’m hoping that there is lots more to come but I was named top sales performer of the year at Jobbio last year which is something that I was very proud of. I have learnt so much in working in a start-up environment like Jobbio and I hope to bring this forward with me and own my own business one day.

Have you any advice for our current students?

My advice would be to not be scared if you don’t know what you want to do with your life as I still don’t! In my opinion, the people that know exactly what they want to do are few and far between and are very lucky. What I’d suggest is that you expose yourself to as many things as possible that you have an interest in, do internships, speak to people about the types of careers you might be interested in and always remember that just because you start in one place doesn’t mean you have to stay there. Every job had lots of transferrable skills and once you know how to harness those skills for your next opportunity, you won’t go far wrong.

Best memory of Ratoath College:

I have lots of fond memories from Ratoath College but to pick just one, I would have to say would be taking part in the School Musical “Back to the 80’s” whilst I was in fifth year. I loved getting to know different people in the school better and we had such a laugh – it was brilliant.
