Setting up a Mobile Hotspot for internet access

NB: Note that using a mobile hotspot to access the internet on your laptop or PC will consume your personal Mobile Phone’s data allowance.
Apple/iPhone
- Select Settings
- Select Mobile Data/Personal Hotspot
- Tap the slider beside ‘Allow Others to Join’ to switch it on.
- Note the password – you will need to enter this on your laptop to connect to the hotspot. You can change this if you wish. Ensure a secure password is set.
- On your laptop, select the internet symbol in the taskbar. Select your phone and click connect and enter the password.
Android/Google
- Select Settings
- Select Connections
- Select Mobile Hotspot and Tethering
- Select ‘Mobile Hotspot’
- Note ‘Network Name’ – this is what will appear on the internet list on your laptop when you are trying to connect.
- Note the password – you will need to enter this on your laptop to connect to the hotspot. You can change this if you wish. Ensure a secure password is set.
- Go back
- Select the dot beside ‘Mobile Hotspot’ so that it is blue to switch on your hotspot. Note that you can usually switch your hotspot on or off by swiping down on your home screen and selecting the hotspot icon.
- On your laptop, select the internet symbol in the taskbar. Select your phone and click connect and enter the password.
