It is with the deepest regret that we must share the very sad news of the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Ms Katie O’Neill. Katie passed away early this morning in the loving arms of her family after a long and bravely borne battle with illness.
Katie joined Ratoath College in 2012 and has been a hugely important part of our school community in so many ways since that time. She was an outstanding teacher of Maths & Geography, a deeply kind and caring Caomhnóir to Rang KO’Neill and the most exceptional colleague.
It was while on leave after the birth of her second child that Katie was first diagnosed with her illness and she has fought bravely for more than three years with the unwavering support of her family and friends. Katie was very grateful too for the wonderful kindness and support she received from so many members of the school community over the last few years.
Staff and students have been informed of Ms O’Neill’s passing in school this morning and we are very deeply grateful for your continued support through this difficult time.
We are acutely conscious that at difficult times such as this, children can be affected even where they did not know the person who has passed, particularly those who perhaps have recently experienced a bereavement or who have lost a loved one. If you feel that your child needs any support in this regard in school, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s Moltóir.
Katie’s pride and joy were her family, her husband Colly and her two babies Hannah and Shane. To them and to all Katie’s family and friends, to all who were fortunate enough to share a part of life’s journey with Katie, to all who loved her and to all who will miss her, we extend on behalf of the entire Ratoath College community our deepest and most sincere sympathies.
