6th Year Geography Field Study – September 2023

As part of the Sixth Year Geography course, we are taking students on a river field study at Tanagh Education Centre, Monaghan as part of their Geographical Investigation for their Leaving Certificate.

It is worth 20% of their marks and they will undertake certain activities at the river (measuring the width, depth, velocity, turbidity and sampling sediment size and roundness class of the River Bunnoe). They are doing this to collect data that they need to complete their Leaving Certificate Geography Investigation.

As advised on the Book & Equipment list in June, the cost of trip will be €30 per student. Payment for this field study must be made through Way2Pay which has been set up for you. This fee must be paid and your consent for the trip indicated on Way2Pay before 13th September 2023.

As the numbers are large and there are three classes, the trip is split over three days, Wednesday 13th September,  Thursday 21st September and Wednesday 4th October where each class group goes out on a separate day. The classes will be informed what day they are going out by their teacher.

Buses will depart Ratoath College at 08.00 sharp on Wednesday/Thursday morning on the 13th September , 21st September and 4th October.  Students will not return to the school until 17.00/17.15. Students need to bring a packed lunch on the day.

Students are required to wear their full PE uniform. Students who present on the morning of the trip not in full uniform will not be permitted to travel.

Items to bring on the day are:

  1. Packed Lunch
  2. Change of clothes
  3. Waterproof jacket and leggings
  4. Wellington boots/hiking boots
  5. Old runners
  6. Swimwear and t shirt
  7. Notebook and pencil

As with all school trips, normal school rules will apply.

We hope everyone has an enjoyable and educational trip.

Yours faithfully

Ms Canny,  Mr. Toher & Ms Dalton
